Cisco 4331 Gateway with DSP installed in wrong location, (i think)

Greetings,

I"m have trouble configuring a 4331 gateway, (possibly because I have not experience).   I can't configure MGCP, etc. From what I can tell from attached pics, and from the link below, it looks like the PVDM module, is in the wrong slot, (T1 card is in 0/2, PVDM is in slot 04).

This is the second gateway I tried to configure, the first one went fine and the T1's were both in 0/2.  

IN addition to lack of experience on gateways, this one isn't remote, so I"m having trouble figuring out how  tough the fix for it is.  I'm looking at these pics but I can't tell if the PVDM is on the main board, or in one of the slots in back---I forget how the slot/sublot goes on these and can't find a pic.

So my question would be, --is this just a matter of moving the PVDM to the same slot as the T1 card, (or vice versa), and how complicated is it?  I don't have the device locally so I'd need to put together some instructions for someone remote at the site.

Yes, you need to move the PVDM from the mother board, to the NIM which needs TDM

The motherboard PVDMs are supported on all Cisco 4000 Series ISRs. They can be plugged directly into the single slot on the router motherboard or into the network interface module (NIM) that supports T1/E1 ports. A PVDM4 module plugged into the motherboard delivers IP-based voice services such as conferencing, media optimization, and transcoding only.

A PVDM4 module plugged into the T1/E1 NIM would be used for voice T1/E1 connectivity. Any excess channels can be reused toward other IP-based services supported on the motherboard slot. Enhanced DSP architecture accommodates a new packet-processing engine optimized for rich-media voice applications, while concurrently supporting the TDM-IP voice framework.

Hi,

Thanks very much for answering my question.  So I have to have someone pull the T1 module, then open the router, remove the PVDM from the motherboard and install it on the module?

It looks like it should be like adding/removing ram--does that sound right?  I could only find partial videos.

I don't have an ISR 4K, at least in the old G1/G2 it was like RAM, the module would fit in the slot and then the sides would secure it as you pressed it. And to take it out, you pressed on the sides and that would push the module.

According to this doc, it seems they now have some screws, might want to send the doc to whoever is going to do the field work, doesn't seem to be that difficult.

Hi,

Just a question on PVDMs installed on both motherboard and E1/T1 NIMS...

We are moving to enterprise SIP from PRI and I only have 128 PVDM4s on the motherboard. Once the PRI has been disconnected from the ISR4351, can I use the PVDM4s on the E1/T1 NIM as additional resource for IP services on SIP? Increasing my DSPfarm to 256 for SIP services?

E1/T1 NIM card will remain on the router obviously if this is possible.
