Cisco 7945 phones keep upgrading

One of my customers have 7945 cisco phones.
They spontaneously go into upgrading modes, this happens 3 maybe 4 times a day.
And after a while all the phones are registering normally.

I didnt find out why this happens, i checked the firmware
All the phones are using firmware SCCP45.9-2-1S

I gave the customer instructions to execute factory reset 123456789*0#
This didnt work.

They also tried a cisco hard reset ( 3491672850*#)

This also didnt work.

The phones are still upgading dont know how to fix this.

What can be done to solve this problem, any help would be appreciated.

Hi.

Please try to load 9.3.1(SR4) firmware version and observe the behaviour.

If the issue seems fixed, then proceed with the upgrade to version 9.4.2(SR1)

Hi carlo i tried it, unfortunately it didnt work:

I've used this procedure:

https://supportforums.cisco.com/document/9873946/upgrade-downgrade-firmware-specific-ip-phone

After i finished i have restarted tftp server.

Hi Mohamed.

you mean that the downgrade didn't work or after downgrade the phone is still rebooting?

Please also mention CUCM version your customer is running.

Cheers

Carlo,

All the phones have status: unregistered

Active load: SCCP45.9-2-1S

I'm not downgrading, i'm trying to upgrade the firmware with :SCCP45.9-3-1SR4-1S
I'm doing this because the phones are still showing upgrading

System version of cucm is : 9.1.2.10000-28

Hi Mohamed,

Can you provide console logs from one of the phone.

JB

I'm not able to, because the customer is in Lagos.
I work in the netherlands.

Is there a way to do this?

As log as the phone has an address and the web access to the phone is not disable, you should be able to get the console logs. also make sure HTTP traffic is not blocked from your PC to the phone.

JB

i was able to capture some console logs

it saying tftp timeout

also i see its trying to retrieve ringtone etc..

Can you attach them to the discussion for us to have a look.

JB

I'll get back on this tomorrow, tnx for your patience

Are there phones local to CUCM.

can you try to rebuild CNF file and restart TFTP and then check.

HTH

JB

create cnf files?
Its cucm based not cme.

I've also restarted tftp yesterday howe ever no luck.

What exactly do you mean with "are there phones local to cucm"

I said rebuild CNF file not create, in order to rebuild CNF files on CUCM you can go to System -> Service Parameter >> Select a server >> select TFTP click on advance button on top

Make the below change

Build CNF Files >> Build All

Enable Caching of Constant and Bin Files at Startup  >>  False
Exit When Exception is Caught  >>  False

Save it and restart TFTP on all servers wait for about 15 min and the Revert them back to default and restart TFTP again.

And going forward if i am seeking for assistance i should not put sarcastic comment like this is CUCM not CME.
