Cisco 8831 3PCC - no admin web interface???

Lbredefe
Level 1
Level 1

When I try to login to my 8831 after a hard factory reset, using http, I just get a list of information with NO option to log in and tweak settings so I can make this device work with sip provider.

i type in http://<ipaddress>/admin/

and I get one like if text saying page does not exist on server

i have tried tons of things but if there is no admin login... I have no idea how I will be able to configure it.

While you're prepping the phone, make sure the phone is on it's own connection.

Sorry I am a bit new at this ....

So do I need to run your recommended software on a windows server machine to assign DHCP to the phone via a switch

or

can I just setup the phone and Run the software on a windows 10 pro laptop hardwired to their own router that will assign DHCP to both?

————————————

(in both cases this would be separate from everything else on the network. )

Run TFTPd64 in your Windows machine. Configure DHCP option 150 using TFTPd64.
Make sure TFTPd64 is pointing to the same directory where the phone files are located.

Thanks Leo I will try it tomorrow morning.

I guess I’m just thinking in my head that the same server that assigns DHCP has to also tell the phone where tftp is. So my worry is based on the fact that the router assigning DHCP is NOT run by the windows laptop... how would it know to find the tftp server created by my laptop? Maybe I am overthinking it. I will do what you said and see if the phone “finds” the laptop and tftpd64 virtual server through my netgear basic blue gigabit switch.

If I don’t put a router in the formula and only use the blue netgear switch, then the only thing that could assign DHCP to the phone is tftpd64 running on windows laptop ... right?

i swear I’m going to make this work lol I just have some noob questions I need to get out of the way so I can solidify a basic understanding.

Leo, alright I have the following running, I have attached screenshots

1) windows 10 laptop plugged into "uplink port" on netgear GS108 switch.

2) phone plugged into a downlink port, currently phone is off. phone also has power adapter ready to be plugged in.

3) TFTPd64 is running on windows 10 laptop with tftp and dhcp ON.

4) option 150 is set to forward to TFTP address

5) tftp is pointed to directory where I will put files

DHCP and tftp are set according to the screenshots, please review and let me know what I am doing wrong. it does not appear to be assigning the phone an IP via the switch. also my adapter, the Realtek family gb/e adapter is grayed out but when I run ipconfig in command prompt it is showing as connected to the switch.

thanks very much for your time.

  1. been working on this all afternoon. I did update the DHCP option 150 address as it had an error in it.
  2. I am concerned my NIC is grayed out in TFTPd64.
  3. I previously said the phone was unplugged and would not pull DHCP, well I plugged the power in and it would not pull DHCP from my laptop running TFTPd64.
  4. also... the NIC on my laptop is set to have a static IP since the switch will not assign it one. let me know if this is correct please sir.
  5. I think i am confused about the relationship between TFTPd64 via my NIC and the switch. is TFTPd64 DHCP server going to assign IP's to the cisco devices plugged into the switch?
  6. I did try plugging my 8831 into a regular router and it pulled DHCP just fine so i believe this is a setting issue.
  7. I am also getting an error message in SFTPd64 saying "communication received from unbound device" - I attached the screenshot.

Leo if you wouldn't mind responding point by point i would immensely appreciate it. I can do this with pretty direct guidance and these items will help clear some confusion.

once again, thank you very much for your time.

Ok, let's try a different direction.
1. Plug your PC and the phone to the router separately.
2. The PC becomes the TFTP server. Note the IP address of the PC.
3. Router supports DHCP function see if DHCP Option 150 can be configured and pointing to the PC.
4. Factory-reset the phone (which will reboot). Take note if the phone gets a valid IP address or not.

awesome ok I can do that.

I ordered the RV320 because it had built in option 150 for DHCP. I have attached a screenshot of it being setup online. I will wait until it comes in, in a couple days and then follow your instruction. I think it auto-assigning DHCP to the phone will help some along with the built in TFTP IP settings with integrated option 150. I will then put the laptop's IP address as the TFTP server and we will work together to configure the TFTP in TFTPd64.

thanks again Leo.

Alright Leo sir,

  1. the RV325 cisco switch is in and configured to point clients to tftp 192.168.1.100 which is the IP of the laptop running TFTP.
  2. tftpd64 is running on the laptop and is "bound" to the dell gigi NIC IP address 192.168.1.100
  3. the phone is PICKING THIS UP :) and showing TFTP IP as 192.168.1.100 on the keypad while the RV325 has assigned it an IP address of 192.168.1.101
  4. TFTPd64 is setup to point to a directory on my desktop that contains the dial plan file and SEPAC44F2130679.cnf.xml which i have done my best to edit and copied below.
  5. the phone is not showing any  status messages popping up like it used to, simply saying "phone not registered" so i assume my config file needs tweaked.
  6. I did not put the firmware in the TFTP folder because it is already installed on the phone, is this ok?
  7. below are the contents of my config file...

Did you factory-reset the phone?

i just did and now i am seeing status messages!!!!!!!!!

here is as follows:

"Error Verifying Config Info"

"SEPAC44F2130679.cnf.xml"

"No Trust List Installed"

"time zone data download failed"

"error updating locale"

"file not found : soktKey9971.xml"

I can see the phone showing up on the client list in TFTPd62, about every minute or so it pops on for about 5 seconds then drops off client list on the TFTP server tab so that is some progress!!!!

i have pasted the config file again below AND THE TFTPD64 SERVER LOG after making your changes... and yes, i do have the RV325 plugged into my home router via WAN port so I am getting internet to the RV325.

onsip did not provide a server IP, just the following in the attachments..so i did a domain to IP converter.... please see attachements.

Above, change that.

Save the config, factory reset the phone.

Let's see if this works.

alright made those changes, and copied in config file below, phone is saying "phone not registered" still, and when i hit the apps button, i no longer see "onsip" on the menu as #5 although not sure that matters or if that is a good thing since when i would select it previously it would basically list the entire config file with an error flag at the top.

do you think i should just try this with a trial of asterisk (meaning using their creds) instead of onsip since people here have experience using asterisk it seems?

trying to make it easier for you to help me.
