Hello,
According to Cisco's documentation, it seems 9971 phones support Call List presence status.
## Presence-enabled directories | # Allows a user to monitor the call state of another directory number (DN) listed in call logs, speed-dials, and corporate directories. The Busy Lamp Field (BLF) for the DN displays the call state. | # For more information, go to the "Presence" chapter in the Cisco Unified Communications Manager Features and Services Guide. |
I'm actually configuring some of these phones and the feature does not seem to work.
Does anybody know if this feature works?
It works fine if I use jabber and put it on a do not disturb status, but I can't just see it from directory or call history.
Thanks!

Hi Daniel,
There is an enhancement request for this:
CSCtc73771 Presence enhancement
Symptom:
On a 79XX series phone the directory, call logs, and call history
(when you press the down key) you are able to see presence status of the DN's if
your subscribe search space allows (this is by the phone icon, on hook for not busy, off hook for on a call, etc..). On a 9971, 9951, and 8961 this behavior does not seem to be present.
Conditions:
Looking for BLF call lists on 4th gen phones.
Workaround:
None. This is an enhancement request for 4th gen phones.
According to the defect it will be addressed in 9.0.
Hope this helps!
Regards,
Tere.

It should work, do you have proper Subscribe CSS assigned to the phone?

Hello,
yes, all of the phones, users and trunk (between cucm and presence) have the proper Subscribe CSS.

Well... it seems to be related to the phone firmware. I just upgraded to the latest (9.2.3) and it seems to work.
I also found the following from the firmware release notes:
Busy Lamp Field for Call Lists
The Busy Lamp Field (BLF) for Call Lists feature is an Enterprise parameter that the administer controls. This feature enables the user to see the presence status of monitored line numbers in the Call History list.
When the BLF for Call Lists parameter is set to Enabled, the phone line numbers in the Call History register BLF notifications and an icon appears next to each Call History item in the Call History list. The icon notifies the user that the lines are in one of the following states:
•Unknown
•Idle
•Busy
•DND
I can see on the phone call list when the user on the other end goes off hook or is in a call... what I can't see is that same status on the corporate directory :S
Also, according to the notes, I shoud be DND status and I see nothing when I activate it, so, I can just see either idle or on a call.
