This is unsupported... but I have been using Firefox with the IEtab extension to manage CM for almost a year now. It never locks up, I don't have to wait for all of the Java prompts everytime I log on, and it seems to work faster.
It doesn't seem to work well for BAT though.
For CM 5.x you don't even need IEtab. Just plain Firefox works great.
