Cisco Jabber IM for Android

I recently configured Cisco Jabber for android on CUP8.6.3 by installing cop file which works fine but I am unable to use Cisco Jabber IM. Can someone tell me, how can I configure Cisco Jabber IM for android on CUP 8.6.3

Hi Ronak,

I read that doc but still not sure how to setup email address as login. When I configured Cisco Jabber, all I needed to add in client was device id which created in cup server.

My Question is where should I setup my email address as login detail of Cisco Jabber and what is IM and Presence Server? Is that different then CUP Server?

Hi Muhammad

IM and Presence server is the new name for CUPS at version 9.x.

In the Jabber IM for Android client simply enter your CUPS account details (userid / password). This needs to include the presence domain name you have set on CUPS server (e.g. userid@domain.com).

I have the latest Jabber IM for Android client working quite happily with CUPS 8.6, which is more than I can say for the Jabber for Android telephony app, but that is another (disappointing) story.

Hi Baryy,

You are star mate and thanks to clear the concept of the IM and Presence server. As you said I tried with userid@ourdomain.com but it gives error message Coundn't open connection to server

Please note we have CUP8.6.3 and CUCM 8.6. Any idea why its failing?

Hi Muhammad

Could be a number of things. I assume you can log onto the CUPS end user page as the account you are testing with?

One other thing to check is DNS - ensure that your Android device can resolve the name of your CUPS server; this quite commonly causes issues. Most of the time I use IP addresses rather than names in CUCM/CUPS configs to stop these kind of things being an issue.

Hi Barry,

Yes I can login to CUP Administration-->End User and CUP user option page as the account (my username) I am testing. I have also checked from android device it resolves the name of our CUP server through nslookup app. I have tried with ip and with server name everytime I get the same error. I have also tried with the userid and password and userid@domainname.com but no joy. I have also tried with ip address and name of the server but no luck.

Just wanted to share our actual email address is on different domain and IM address shows on the domain CUP server registered. Don't think so this will cause any issue.
