CME and CUE Upgrade Licensing Considerations

Hi,

I have a pending project to upgrade an existing CME/CUE.

Upgrading CME ver 9 on 15.0(1r)M15 to CME ver 12.2 on 16.8.1.

Upgrading CUE ver 8.6.4 to 8.6.12 (to keep compatibility with CME 12.2)

My question relates to the licensing for CME and CUE: will I need to re-host the CUE license? And if so how? Are there any licensing considerations with the CME upgrade?

CUE License command output:

show license status app
voicemail enabled: 4 ports, 4 sessions, 50 mailboxes
ivr disabled, no activated ivr session license available

show software version

Cisco Unity Express version (8.6.4)
Technical Support: http://www.cisco.com/techsupport Copyright (c) 1986-2011 by Cisco Systems, Inc.

Components:

- CUE Voicemail Language Support version 8.6.4

Many thanks, John.

Hi John,

You should not have any issues with licensing in both cases, your CUE upgrade is of a minor version (8.6.4 to 8.6.12) so it doesn't affect your current installed licenses.

As for CME, you can do the upgrade of the IOS to ger the functionality of CME 12 without any issues since the device comes with the CME permanent license:

Cisco Unified CME Permanent License

When you purchase a Cisco Unified CME permanent license, the permanent license is installed on the device when the product is shipped to you. A permanent license never expires and you will gain access to that particular feature set for the lifetime of the device across all IOS release.

Nothing get's affected during an upgrade as long as you do not go up to v9.0 and onwards. You retain the licenses for both CME and CUE.
