Hello,
Could you kindly help me with some basic CME concepts , I have to work on a CME implementation which is new to me so I have many questions.
1) How can i know what version of CME is being used ? Is version of CME dependant on IOS version eg. if IOS installed is 12.XX CME version will be different and if IOS version is 15.X.X CME version will be different ?
2) Is there any kind of license file that we need to install ?
3) Do we need to put FW files in router flash for all the phone types we are using ... Can't the phones boot with default Firmware file they have by default?
4) Is the language Locale already in there or is there something I need to install ?
Thank you
Regards,
Anil Sharma

Yes, you need to have the firmware images in the Router flash

4) Is the language Locale already in there or is there something I need to install ?
The user-defined locale feature allows you to support network and user locales other than the system-defined locales that are predefined in Cisco IOS software. For example, if your site has phones that must use the language and tones for Traditional Chinese, which is not one of the system-defined choices, you must install the locale files for Traditional Chinese.

Hope this helps.

Hi Anand,
Many thanks for your response
I am still not clear about the IOS and CME version , how are they linked ?
I may be wrong but my understanding is a CME software is installed in a normal voice gateway which makes it CME ?
Is this correct ??

Hi Anil,
For your First question,
Not sure about the conventions followed for IOS and CME version mapping, we refer the below link whihc clearly tells us which IOS maps to which version of CME.
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucme/requirements/guide/33matrix.htm
For the second question, your understanding is correct. But always refer the specifictaions for the supported Platform, Memory..for exampls for CME 9.1 version,
Cisco Unified CME 9.1 Supported Firmware, Platforms, Memory, and Voice Products
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucme/requirements/guide/cme91spc.html
Hope this helps.

Hello,
I have another question regarding CME locale, I was reviewing the link below :
It says CME support 12 locale built-in, for mentioned phone models we can user network locale and user locale cmds to set the language etc .
However for the CME site i will be working on, it will have only 7962 phones. So, does it mean I will have to download the Japanses Locale file from cisco.com ?
my second question is in router's flash i see one file named as cpexpress.tar, What all this file includes. Any ideas ? Does this file include phone firmware files and Locale file ?
Or do i need to install the Locale and firmware files myself ?
