Hello all,
I'm pretty new to the VOIP phone space so please bear with me if I use the wrong terminology. If it would be easier to point out documentation then I would greatly appreciate the resource. My question is, is it possible to set up a 7962 to ring when a DN is called, but is an Unassociated Item?
Here's the background information:
I've got a user who has a 7962 fit with two expansion modules (7915's). She is the only one at her location that currently has a 7962, while everyone else uses a 7931 to answer calls. The way the branch is set up is this:
The main line receives a phone call and then forwards it to Line 1. If Line 1 doesn't answer, it then forwards the call to Line 2, all the way to Line 8 where it will then forward to voicemail. I know that 7931's support shared lines. From what I've been told by others, 7962's don't support shared/cascading lines.
The original issue was that her location had lost the use of shared lines. From what I was told this was because 7931's and hunt groups don't exactly agree with each other, so the solution that our third level put in place was to point the location's phone number to the first line of the cascading group. This caused an issue where calls no longer reach her phone so that she can't answer them. Her expansion module works just fine though because the BLF indicators will light up when a line's in use.
I've offered to set Line 1 as a secondary number on her phone so that she can at least pick up the call when it initially goes through, but she didn't like that because it wasn't how things worked before. I've also added her as the first number to ring in a top down hunt group they had but she didn't like that either. So right now the location's been reverted back to the main phone number forwarding calls to Line 1.
Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Not sure who told you that the 7962 does not support shared lines or cascading, but they're completely wrong, those features are not device dependent.
If your call routing would be fixed by using shared lines or cascading, there is nothing preventing you from configuring it.
