connecting modem 56k with FXS port under 2801 router

Yes, but you must have the interface to telco in the same router.

yes, its like using a common telephone switch, that can take out the calls to the pstn via FXS or T1. What I have not done yet is to pass the call throug an IP network, would be fun to pass IP over voice over IP over a digital or analog line. LoL

VoIP doesn't work good on modems, mainly because the upload is too slow.

However using extreme codecs, it can be done.

As indicated above. You cannot have high speed modem using two different gateways.
