CUCM 11- Adhoc conferencing not working with regions

Hi Guys,

I am experiencing a strange issue. I am trying to setup adhoc conferencing using the the software bridge but when i reference the regions on the device pool, intra-call conferencing is going busy. I set the regions to use G711 when calling a site with the same pool but the call manager is seeing it as devices with different codecs.

I have to remove the region and use default for the device pool and then it works.

Any ideas why this is happening?

Hi,

When you press the conference button, CUCM allocates a conference bridge from the initiator's MRGL and check the region settings between the IP phone and the conference bridge. Since software conference bridge supports only G711 codec, can you check the region between conference bridge and the IP phones to make sure they are G711, if using software conference resources on call manager?

The default codec for any inter-region calls is G.729, did you adjust that as required??

Yes I did. I created a DP with regions and assigned three phones to the same DP. I also configured same region to use G711 (64kbps). With the DP configured with regions, the phones go busy in a conference. When i changed the region on the DP to default it works.

I am testing with 1 SIP 7821 and 2 SCCP 7941s, i doubt this makes a difference.

Hi Aseem,

You are correct. I placed the CFB in the same DP as the phones and it worked. Thanks for the help.

Hi,

You are most welcome! Glad to help you.

Can you make sure that CFB is in the same region as the phones. If you leave the CFB in default DP which has default region while changing the phones to x DP, this will trigger G729 as its the default codec for inter-region.

If it only works when you have the CFB in the same DP, and thus, the same region. It doesn't sound like you actually changed the default codec settings for this to work. The default is G.711 between the same region, and G.729 with any other region.
