CUCM 12 - anyone else finding it seriously slow

Hi,

This is my first 12.x build, a new build two server CUCM cluster, i.e. not an upgrade but a new install using the v12 OVA template.   CUCM is 12.0.1.22900-11 which is the latest I could find.

We've noticed that the admin web pages are seriously slow, sometime taking around 25 seconds from selecting an option before the next dialogue box is fully displayed.  Anyone else finding this?  It doesn't seem to affect Unity Connection.  I'm not sure if this is a fault or just how it is with CUCM 12.

Thanks, Tony S

Are you running on supported HW?

java

if this helps, please rate

Yes.  It's a BE6K C220M4S and we're using the TCR Small profile with the v12 OVA.  Hardware was originally shipped with 11.5 but by the time we deployed the customer wanted 12.0 as a "toe in the water" before planning to upgrade all his existing clusters.

No oversubscribing?

What does the IOWAIT shows?

No over subscribing.  I'll check IOWAIT tomorrow.   Unity Connection responsiveness is fine, and with CUCM it seems only the admin interface that's slow, for example services starting are no slower than 11.5 (not that that's saying much!)

Is 12.0 much more picky about hardware?   I didn't notice much difference in the specs based requirements.

Taking samples from "show status" IOWAIT always shows zero even while I'm waiting for a page to display.  All the CPU percentages are low while the server's idle, User has once shown 50%, other times between 2 and 10%.   Is there a way to graph these?

OK, the server doesn't seem to be under a huge load to not process the request, I use Chrome and FF and not really notice any difference in response time.

You can try to restart Tomcat and see if it makes any difference, if not, then you might want to open a TAC so someone can investigate this.

Just to clarify: you’re using the 1000 user OVA with 2 vCPU and 6GB of RAM, correct? The other “small” OVAs are not supported on that platform.

Thanks, yes it's the correct profile, the normal 1000 user BE6K profile.

However it's interesting that two people have asked along the lines of platform compatibility.   Ever since CUCM could run on VMware I've run loads of installs in the lab, lots of them on hosts that don't remotely meet Cisco's specifications.  Under lab conditions with the system basically idle these have all performed acceptably.   With these being almost the first questions asked regarding an issue on 12.x, does this imply that 12.x is much more picky?

By the way, although it's a side issue because we're not using it, the documentation shows the 150 user profile as supported on BE6K M4.  Or am I missing something?

Hi Tony,

Which browser you are using to access CUCM and whether you tried any other browsers ?

That's a very good point, thanks.   I have been using Safari and my colleague uses Chrome so I had assumed it couldn't be a browser issue.  However I've just tested with Firefox and it's much quicker, almost normal in fact.
