CUCM 8.6.2.22900-9: integration with WebEx Meeting Center

Hello,

we have a CUCM 8.6.2.22900-9 (with a CUP 8.6.4.13900-4 and a CUC 8.6.2.22900-9), and we would like to integrate it with WebEx Meeting Center (included in CUWL Pro by a WEBEX-UWL-P-PAK).

For example, we would like to:

  • start a WebEx meeting from an IP Phone;
  • use the audio and/or the video of IP Phone to interact with the other participants of the WebEx meeting.

Is it possible? If yes, what do we need, in terms of hardware, software, and configurations?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Best regards.

This is only possible on TelePresence endpoints with the Touch controller, not traditional IP Phones. Cisco has branded it WebEx enabled TelePresence but many engineers will call it "WebEx One-Touch 2.0". Getting it to work requires a lot of work on-premise. You need CUCM, VCS-C, VCS-E, TMS, an MCU (to conference the TelePresence endpoints and stream out to WebEx via Expressway), and of course a WebEx contract.

Marketing one-pager:

Release notes:

Traditional IP phones (E20s, 9971s, etc) could join the MCU (it supports automatic outdial) and participate in the video side of the call; however, they would still need to join WebEx on their PC to see the presentation.

OK, thanks for your answer.

But meanwhile I have found this document:

https://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cuae/8_0/english/webex/WebexInstllationGuide.pdf

At page 6, there is a voice, "Cisco IP Phone", among the various "Integration" options.

Unfortunately, it seems that I don't have that voice in my WebEx Site Administration.

Is it a licensing issue, or is that option no more available?

Thanks again and regards.

That relied on Cisco Unified Application Environment (CUAE) to serve as a middleware. CUAE has since been EoL.

Ah, OK.

Do you know any third party software that permits to get this integration?

Hello Jonathan,

I have read that the new Cisco platform CWMS (Cisco WebEx Meeting Server) works in conjunction with CUCM.

But can CWMS be integrated with WebEx Meeting Center (so that, somehow, CUCM and WebEx Meeting Center are integrated, too)?

Or the two deployments are mutually exclusive?

Thanks and regards.

They are two separate deployment models: either on-premise or SaaS. In theory you could have both WebEx Meeting Center and CWMS servers but there is no integration between them.

OK Jonathan,

thank you for your answer.

I have read on the End-of-Sale and End-of-Life Announcement for the Cisco Unified Application Environment 8.5 (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/voicesw/ps6789/ps7047/ps7058/end_of_life_notice_c51-681602.html) that "Customers and developers are encouraged to migrate to the richer Cisco Unified Communications native APIs".

Do you know any project made with CUCM APIs and related to the integration between CUCM and WebEx Meeting Center?

Thanks again and regards.
