Solved: CUCM BAT problem

Hi All,

I'm in the process of installing CUCM 8.5 for a customer I want to use BAT to 'Insert Phone with Users'.

I've done this before with CUCM5 & 7 and it worked without issue.

However in 8.5 I'm getting the following error on the job scheduler:

WARNING: Primary Extension does not exist on the devices/profiles controlled by the user. User will be inserted/updated without the primary extension

I have my "<Ext. No> in <Partition>" as my 'Primary Extension' field but no joy.

Any ideas? It's annoying because users cannot be imported into unity connection without a primary extension being set!

Hi Gary,

For the primary extension number you need to specify the partition, as above " in "

So your example:

pfinch,,,,,,,,119205,,,,,,,,,t,,,,,,Standard CCM End Users,SEP108CCFE1A141

Needs to be:

pfinch,,,,,,,,119205 in Internal,,,,,,,,,t,,,,,,Standard CCM End Users,SEP108CCFE1A141

Where 'Internal' is the name of the partition.

Let me know if that works.

BAT Insert of Phones/Users does not associate Primary Extension
CallManager Versions:
8.0.1 and above
8.5.1.10000-26 (Customer Reported)

Issue/Symptoms:
When trying to add "Users and Phones" using the BAT tool the "Primary Extension" field on the user page does not get associated to a directory number.

Functionality does not work in any of the following cases:

BAT File Without Partition and Phone Line Template DN with Partition
BAT File Without Partition and Phone Line Template DN without Partition
BAT File With Partition and Phone Line Template DN with Partition
BAT File With Partition and Phone Line Template DN without Partition

Note: All of the above 4 cases do not work with Dummy MAC or Real MAC addresses

There are two type of errors we see in the BPS Logs:
1. If the BAT Phone Line Template DN has a Partition assigned to it then we see:
WARNING : PRIMARY EXTENSION : does not exist. If all other values in the CSV are correct, then user will be inserted/updated without primary extension.

2. If the BAT Phone Line Template DN does not have a Partition assigned to it then we see
WARNING: Primary Extension does not exist on the devices/profiles controlled by the user. User will be inserted/updated without the primary extension

Work Around:
1) Insert Phone and User using "BAT->Phone-Users->Insert Phone-Users"
2) Update primary extension for users using "BAT->Users->Update Users"

Note: Workaround cannot be used if you have the Primary Extension assigned to a partition. In which case you will have to manually update each user.

Wow a reply from the main man!

I agree I am probably hitting the bug however I’m managed to find a work around since I posted the above. If I add a ‘PRIMARY USER DEVICE’ field the ‘Primary Extension is then accepted!

I can’t think of any detriment that would be caused by the user having a device selected under ‘Mobility Information’

I am running into this same issue when I try to update users. I am running on version 8.6.2

I tried the work-around listed above and it did not help at all. Anyone have any ideas?

These are just the test files before I do all 200 or so phones and users. I have the phone insert and update users files. Only updating users as I am using LDAP integration. Everything But the assigning of the primary extension is working fine.
