CUCM service redundancy

Hi Everyone

We are running CUCM 6.1 cluster on MCS 7835 with over 1800 phones in single site deployment.

We have CUCM service activated on both PUB and SUB. In CUCM group setting SUB is the primary.

Recommendations from Cisco: “Publisher should not be used for call processing functions especially when the cluster has over 1000 IP Phones or more. Good thing in CMG: Sub is Pri1 and Pub is Pri2.”

Question: If the CUCM service is deactivated on PUB, how the phones will failover?

Your response is appreciated.

Hello,

In case you deactivated the CCM service , the phones will no longer be available in the case of failover , the best thing is to buy a new subscriber and add it to the lest as seconds option , the PUB should be the third option.

The question is why you want to deactivate the CCM service from the publisher.

Cisco recommends that no phones are attached to the PUB in case you have subscribers up and running , but they also say that the PUB should be last option on the CCM group , so there is no need to deactivate the CCM service from the PUB.

Thanks for the answer...

Do you think an extra SUB is required for our size of network?

Ahmed.

Hello,

Definetly , it would be great if you add another SUB , not only that , creat a second device pool and another CCM group that the order will be :

CCM group 1

Sub1

Sub2

Pub

CCM group 2

Sub2

Sub1

Pub

In this case the call manager will serve better and the servers will not be utilized on the normal working servers.

Thanks Amer..
