CUCM Upgraded Affect the Skinny Version of IP Phone?

I have upgraded Call Manager from 8.5 to 10.5. I retain the firmware version for the Cisco IP Phone 6921. However, only this particular SCCP model IP Phone unable to be recorded with third party recorder (Verint) after CUCM upgraded to 10.5. Previously the Call Manager is version 8.5 and it does not have this issue. Verint log show that it does not support Skinny version more than 20. Is upgrading the Call Manager will affect the Skinny version? Cisco IP Phone 6921 currently using firmware :SCCP69xx.9-4-1-3SR2

CUCM versions wont affect Skinny versions but the phone firmware versions are directly related. For firmware version 9.x usually the skinny version will be 20. You need to check what is the exact skinny version now for this firmware 9-4-1-3SR2 and whether it is above 20. Guess you could see that in phone web page.

Hi Rajan,

Thanks for the reply. But if is running on version 20 for firmware 9.x above, how come it able to recorded when the CUCM version is 8.5 and fail when CUCM version 10.5? It is possible is UCCX issue?

Thanks.

You might need to check the compatibility of recording server version with the upgraded versions.

Hi Rajan,

The Verint version is 7.8. They only able to accept skinny version till 20. Not more than that. What make it weird is why previously is working even the firmware version is same. So Verint is suspecting the CUCM and UCCX upgraded causes it.

The phone firmware would have downgraded to an older SCCP version if the CUCM version didn’t support it. The CUCM cluster shouldn’t have been upgraded if the Verint server didn’t support it for SPAN-based recording. Luckily there is a cleaner way to do this in current releases with Network Based Recording. CUCM sends Verint a SIP INVITE for the call, eliminating the need to do SPAN in the first place.

Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for the reply. The CUCM cluster need to be upgraded since 8.5 is EOS. Client will like to stick to SPAN based recording for now. Thank you for your suggestions and will try it out.

Have a very similar issue 7940s records fine but 6941s will not record on new CUCM. Did you find an answer for this?
