Direct Transfer across lines

I have a general question about a scenario using feature direct transfer.

Is the feature supported across lines in similar fashion as feature join across lines?

In my scenario, I have a phone with a primary and secondary line (actually a shared line).

First call is made to the primary DN and call is answered.  The user then uses the secondary line to place second call.  Now, second call is active and first call on hold.

I can use the soft-keys to select one of the call legs (secondary call (I believe)).  However, when I attempt to direct transfer, I select the dirTrfr softkey and either the Primary DN or Secondary line, but the call only toggles between the primary and secondary but the  feature does not respond to these key sequences.   I don't recall any error shown in the display.

If I change the scenario by putting the first call on-hold and attempt the second call using the same primary or secondary DN, I'm able to select both call legs and execute the direct transfer. 

The phone types are 7961, 7970.

I am currently using CUCM release 11.

And this text below is actually the way I changed the scenario to execute the direct transfer feature.

If I try putting the first call on-hold and attempt the second call using the primary or secondary DN, I'm able to select both call legs and execute the direct transfer.
