Disabling Media Inactivity Call Detection

Hi Guys,

I have a question for you, we are thinking of disabling Media Inactivity call detection on our voice gateways I was wondering if you knew what impact this could have on service? Having a look at the following article about setting it up and it looks like the function is used to detect silent callers that do not send/recieve RTP/RTCP traffic and therefore the caller is silent and the caller can be disconnected :

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/voice/ivr/configuration/guide/ivrapp07.html#wp1068296

So if we disable this detection would we leave ourselves open to telephony DOS attacks as any silent callers could use up all our lines? Or does cisco use another function to detect silence also?

A swift response would be much appreciated, thanks for you help!!!!

Nat

Per Cisco's best practices VAD should always be disabled, use "no vad" on all of you dial-peers.  VAD has never worked as intended in any environment, only causes problems.
