DND or Away to show in software (reception)

Is there a way to easily program a user's phone so that an "away" status will show up in the Receptionist's software? We would like to have anyone leaving the office to set their phone on DND or similar status. Upon doing so, the Receptionist would immediately know that the person was gone or unavailable via the phone Cisco software.

Thank you for ANY help in this area!!

I'm also very courios to this answer...

It's a little like the same question as: https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2071760?tstart=0

Only is this for "Hard-Phones" and the other one for "Soft-Phones"...

With number of people who have viewed this question, you'd think we'd be able to get an answer.  :-)

Hi Victoria,

I'll try help you better route your questions:

  1. What is the model number of the user's phone to which you refer?

  2. What software does the Receptionist use?

Patrick

We all use the 7961 series and the Cisco Unified Communications Manager Attendant Console.

Hi Victoria,

I've asked a moderator to help by moving this thread from the small business IP phone community.

I believe you'll get expert help from the folk in the https://supportforums.cisco.com/community/netpro/collaboration-voice-video/ip-telephony community.

The folk in the

https://supportforums.cisco.com/community/netpro/small-business/voiceandconferencing/ipphones?view=discussions community

can help with SPA-model IP phones that use SIP and work with Asterisk, Broadsoft, Metaswitch, and so on.

One month later and still no answers. Does anyone know if this can be done or not?  If not, we'll just deal with it, but it certainly would be helpful for our receptionist!

Well, CUCM version is not mentioned but if you are using CUCM 7.x & later, you will have the CUEAC, CUBAC, CUDAC type of Attendant consoles & not the legacy attendant console. Gettting user's phone status in AC is mainly achieved by deploying CUPS server. Do you have CUPS in your setup ?

Also pls clarify on CUCM & CUPS version, AC ( type & version ) etc.

Pls remember to rate helpful posts.

Victoria,

In future to receive quicker response, if you are from a Cisco Partner organization, consider opening a PDI Help Desk case at www.cisco.com/go/pdihelpdesk

Hope it helps ?

Hi Victoria,

Havent had much experience with Attendant Console but reading a few documentations i see it is doable.

First of all it seems that you need to enable presence on CUCM which is done by configuring BLF (CUCM Presence).

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucme/admin/configuration/guide/cmepres.pdf

This might work and will show the presence of the user to the receptionist as i am not sure how DND is handled by CUCM presence.

If this doesnt work you can integrate Attendant Console with Cisco Unified Presense or Microsoft Office Communicator pls refer pages 66 onwards for this.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucmac/arc/cubdacug803x.pdf

Hope this helps
