DOES BE6000 REQUIRE NODE LICENSE FOR CLUSTERING

Dear All,

Kindly assist with this above heading information. My case is that we installed CMBE6 some couple of months ago. Now we want to add second CMBE6 as subcriber but the following issue came up:

"Configuring validation with site-ab-cm (192.168.1.1) fail

"Configured first node site-ab-cm is not a first node"

A note here:

We use security password for publisher to join but it fail.

Now the question is do we need NODE license for the second BE6K before it can be joined to publisher?

Thanks,

are u entering the correct security password ?what is the CUCM version?

Hi

I would want to rule out the following:

1. Version mismatch - Pub and Sub ( as well as IMP) must match the exact versions

2. Network connectivity between the nodes (Pub and the Sub being installed)

3. Password

4. Typo of the Pub IP Add / Hostname

5. DNS (if you are using it, it must also match the Recursive Lookups)

6. NTP on Publisher

Hi,

you do not require any Node licenses for CUCM 9 and above.

You need to add Subscriber details to Publsiher first.

regds,

aamn

Thanks. I have added the detail to publisher. But still the same issues..

are u entering the correct security password ?what is the CUCM version?

The password is what I am 100% sure of..version 10.5

check for NTP status on PUB which could be the issue.

check this discussion.

1. Version mismatch - Pub and Sub ( as well as IMP) must match the exact versions  NOT THE CASE

2. Network connectivity between the nodes (Pub and the Sub being installed) NOT THE CASE

3. Password NOT THE CASE[Password for login to os admin same as security this what is used]

4. Typo of the Pub IP Add / Hostname NOT THE CASE

5. DNS (if you are using it, it must also match the Recursive Lookups) NOT THE CASE [Not used]

6. NTP on Publisher [NOT THE CASE( NTP accessible by Publisher)]

What else?

can u share output of utils ntp status from PUB?

secondly, are u installing subscriber across WAN.If yes, please check for Firewall policy with ports being opened.

regds,

aman

Thanks for your contribution.

I had to change the security password and point ntp server to router instead of Microsoft Window.

Now there is progress..

Hi ,

SRND clerly mentions that

Cisco recommends synchronizing Unified CM with a Cisco IOS or Linux-based NTP server. Using

Windows Time Services as an NTP server is not recommended or supported because Windows Time

Services often use Simple Network Time Protocol (SNTP), and Linux-based Unified CM cannot

successfully synchronize with SNTP.

Also, there is a bug related to Windows NTP

SRND to specifically mention that Windows NTP server is not supported
CSCte17541

Symptom:

CUCM is unable to sync to an NTP server.

Conditions:

CUCM NTP configuration is pointing to a Windows NTP server.

Workaround:

Configure a linux or IOS NTP server.

I understand if you are certain that the password is the same as the "OS Administrator" but unfortunately the issue you're facing is due to an incorrect password. You will need to reset the "Security Password" via the CLI.

This issue occurs due to the mismatch of the administrator passwords or security passwords between the publisher and subscriber. The security password on all nodes in a cluster must match with that of the publisher. Maintain the same security password on all machines, or the cluster nodes are not able to communicate.

P.S.

I know the document provided is an older version but the issue is still the same.
