for one of our branch ..local team procure the Analog FAX number & asking us to is it possible to connect that on the cisco Voice Gateway ..
where we are using VGW CISCO3925 & for this we purchase the VIC3-4FXS/DID to connect the the FAX line on VGW...now we stuck on the configuration part on VGW & CUCM (We are using CUCM ver. 10.5.2.12901-1 )...
Can any one help with the configuration part on VGW & CUCM side config.
Below is the basic configuration we done on VGW..is this enough...
!
!
dial-peer voice 110 pots
description MAERSK FAX1
destination-pattern 3232051532
port 0/1/0
forward-digits all

dial-peer voice 120 pots
description MAERSK FAX2
destination-pattern 3232051622
port 0/1/1
forward-digits all
!
voice-port 0/1/0
timeouts interdigit 4
description ABC FAX1
station-id name ABC FAX1
station-id number 3232051532
caller-id enable

Hello Vijay,
From a high level and most typically, the customer will take an analog device (device that uses an RJ-11 or RJ-14 style connector) and plug that into one of the FXS ports.
Within the router, you'll need inbound and outbound dial-peers, and possibly some control configuration that gives CCM the ability to control the FXS ports.
Within CCM, you would typically see the 3925 setup as an H.323 gateway (or in some cases MGCP or SCCP gateway) under CCM's gateway page. My recommendation is to use an H.323 gateway configuration as they tend to be less problematic however, MGCP is attractive because it can be easier to manage, administratively.
Here is an older thread that talks about connecting a fax through and FXS port and configuring the gateway as h.323:
https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/10788481/how-connect-fax-fxs-through-h323-cucm
If you are interested in MGCP, here is a Cisco document that guides you through setting up an MGCP gateway in CCM with FXS/FXO ports:
Cisco ATA
You would not need an ATA if you are using the FXS ports to plug the analog device into. An ATA could be used if you wanted to use the analog device as a CCM-attached endpoint. In other words, the ATA would register to CCM like an IP phone (similar config options too), then the analog device attaches to the ATA.
Without debate, this would be a much simpler deployment method, if you are not comfortable configuring h.323/MGCP/SCCP gateways.
Hope this helps,
Ryan

1. Yes, FXS will satisfy requirement
2. In an office with a standalone fax (where access to an FXS port is not likely to be), an ATA would typically be used.
Thanks,

What fax protocol are you using in your environment? What is the PSTN access this fax would use? As this drives what Voip protocol one would use SIP vs. SCCP vs. MGCP vs. H323. If you are planning on using protocol-based T.38 then SCCP is out of the picture as it only supports NSE based T.38. You would be left with SIP vs. MGCP as H.323 gives you nothing more than SIP and SIP is current standard for most deployments. If you go with SIP then you need to build inbound/outbound dial-peers on the analog GW to point to the voice-ports and outbound to either CUCM or directly PSTN GW. On CUCM you will need route pattern for the fax number and point it to the SIP trunk.

Hello Ryan,
Its clear my concept actually..more over some few queries again in mind
1. Suppose we are having a E1 type DID range 3 860 6100 - 6129 where 3 860 6129 will be FAX no. where on site there is Analog port FAX machine...so FXS port will complete the hardware requirement to configure FAX on setup..
2. Suppose there is a individual/stand alone Analog FAX line comes in office...is there any way we can configure it on CUCM...
3. Still confuse on ATA how it works..
Sorry me asking more and more quires i already go through many documents & confusion goes on n on ...
