Getting 7916 to work on 7965

Hi Guys,

I have the following:

- Call Manager - Version 7.1.5

- 7965G - Firmware 9-3-1

- 7916 - Firmware 1-0-4-2

- SCCP based

I can not get the 7916 module to work, it only shows the Cisco logo and all lights are amber. I have Googled myself to a standstill and now need some help please.

I have tried various combinations of settings. I have enabled the 12 and/or 24 button module on the 7965G settings, I have added/removed the  Module Load Name for the 7916, I have upgraded/downgraded the firmware versions, I have factory reset the 7965 almost to death, I have deleted/recreated the phone configuration, etc etc etc ...

The one very weird thing that I have noticed is that when I apply the Config to the Phone, that not all settings as I have set them in CM, seems to "transfer" to the phone. For instance, even though I enable SSH, I can not SSH into the phone. And I set the Web Access to HTTPS only, but can still access the standard HTTP interface. There are other settings also that does not "transfer" ...

Also, when I Apply the Config and I check the Status on the phone itself, the module never shows as permanently states "Not Configured" and the module firmware is blank.

Any ideas and help please ?!

Hi Oliver

The other step I can suggest you is to downgrade 7965 firmware to an earlier version a see if it makes the difference.

Regards

Carlo

I downgraded the firmware to 8-3-5 on the 7965, and to 1-0-3 on the 7916, but no luck yet. The phone console logs look slightly different and at least there is no TVS error anymore, but I still have a CTL failure of sorts, which I hope will solve my problem. I also tried deleting the CTL/ITL (as you will see in the logs to follow), but still nothing. This is the logs after the CTL delete :

Hi Oliver.

Does the 7965G register to CUCM?

Are you able to try if 7916 module works on other phone model if you have one?

Let me know

Regards

Carlo

Jip, 7965 registers fine. This is the only sidecar capable phone we have.

Did you remember to change load name of 7916 module on IP phone configuration page?

Now should be B016-1-0-3.

Hi Oliver.

Any news from the sidecar?

Carlo

No progress at all, sigh ! I noticed this morning though that my CTL and the Certificates loaded on the server are out of sync. So I am going to try and resync everything using the CTL Client, but of course for some or other weird reason the CTL Client does not want to install on my PC or Server. The fun just continues ...

Right, so if it is raining/snowing/hurricaning where you are, it is because I got it working !

I battled to get the CTL Client and eTokens working, but eventually got them working in a clean XP installation on a Virtualbox. I then Updated the CTL file on the server and deleted the CTL on the phone. After the phone reset itself the phone and sidecar started working immediately.

Hi Oliver ,

I have same problem , I try from couple of days to make it work , but no luck , I have CUCME 8.6 on Cisco 2811 ,

the 7916 100% work correctly also the 7965 phone work and register normally , can you inform me any idea to

make it work, I have 2nd Cisco 7965 and 7916 and work correctly .

Best Regards

Marwan, my problem was a mismatch in the security certificates on the server. I used the CTL client to recreate and resync the certificates and then reset the phones, all came right after that. Have a look at some of my posts above with some more details.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply ,

I check the CTL it's not configure at my system , I use CME on Cisco 2811 , not CUCM , I also try erase the config from the phone and see the CTL information on phone it's not config , I also try change the phone 3 deferent Firmware no luck to get it work .

Best Regards
