How to find out if any PSTN line is unavailable

Hi,

I have been configuring CCME with cisco 2821 routeor. 8 PSTN lines are connected with the router. Is there any way so that we can monitor or check if the lines are OK. In conventional PABX system, it can be monitored with some sort of master set. Can this be done with any cisco IP phones or by any other way.

Is it possible to make all the PSTN number available in a single number, so that outside callers will call to that single number and once the call is reached to the system, the system will assign it to the available number.

Any help in this regard is highly appreciable.

Best regards,

Sagar

Sagar,

I think the Trunk Monitor function is the equivalent of the PBX feature you mention, it allows an ephone-dn to show the status of a voice port.

          http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucme/command/reference/cme_t1ht.html#wp1015411

The second question, a single number across all eight POTS lines, this is down to your provider but in the UK this can be done.

Hello Craig,

Thanks for the information. Can you please give me a precise example of the configuration? Say I have 8 PSTN lines and we are using 7911 IP phones. In this scenerio how can we monitor 8 lines from that phone.

Your response in this regard is really appreciable.

Sagar

Hello,

I think trunk command in this case is not appropiate. Trunk only monitors if the line is busy or not, doesn't help to understand if the line is OK or not.

Also we can't configure any dn to monitor more than one FXO port.

Any idea on this is highly appreciable.

Best regards.

Sagar,

Your quite right the will only detect port usage, you would have to notice that a paticular port was either unexpectedly off hook or never used which is not great. But this is the same kind of functionality I would expect from a PBX.

On a 7911 this is just going to be just unusable, you would want an eight line phone or phone with a side car.

Have you looked at using an SNMP tool to look at the CISCO-VOICE-ANALOG-IF-MIB?

Craig

Hello Craig,

This sounds good. Can you please give me some idea on CISCO-VOICE-ANALOG-IF-MIB?

Best regards,
