IP Communicator in Citrix/Terminal Servicer

Hi,

Can IP communicator work in a Citrix or Terminal server environment? I've tried installing IP communicator and it doens't install on Windows 2000 and 2003 server.

Cisco IP Communicator will only run on the following platforms. I stand to be corrected on this one, but my experience so far only shows that, it is supported on the following desktops only.

a) Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional (Service Pack 4) or

b) Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 2)

It installs on Win XP Pro, but thats as far as it goes. dont expect to use it on XP Pro, let alone get any help !!!.

Basically aside from delivering the CIPC app to devices (i.e. CE or other terminals that don't run a Win32 OS) that can't run it, there is little advantage in doing this...

TS or Citrix will not be as efficient in terms of bandwidth usage as CIPC on a PC or a hard phone, and will be more difficult to classify voice over application/data traffic.

Some Cisco apps can work in Citrix, however largely any media termination in the session won't be supported by Cisco as there are too many variables that could affect it - i.e. quality/performance issues, multiple instances on one IP address (unless using per-session IPs with Citrix 4.0 which i've not tried yet), and so on...

You are probably better off with phones, or running CIPC local on devices if they support it... unless you have a really good reason to run it on TS.

I imagine your current issue is that the Win32/MSI package is set to install only on certain OS type/versions... you can usually fiddle these by editing the install package or MSI, however you can bet this isn't supported either! i.e., you would be on your own from Cisco's point of view.
