ISDN versus R2 Digital

Could someone help me understand the advantangens the use of ISDN signaling instead of R2D?

My environment has CallManager and Unity Connection.

ISDN has all the advantages, first of all being a modern protocol instead of E1 R2, a that is a reminiscence of the 60s.

E1 R2 only survived in developing countries because telecom sold them what was de-installed in countries that upgraded to ISDN.
