I have been going thru a lot of configuration in my lab at home. So far I can't find a reason why I need to use or when should I use a software MTP. I basically use a transcoders to do just about everything, but I know that i am missing something about a software MTP. Beside using a software MTP when using RSVP. Is their any another time the I should be configuring an MTP? How can I lab this up at home and see this functioning?
The second part to this is when should I configure a voice-class codec? Whenever I configure my Site 1 as a SIP gateway, any incoming calls should be sent to CUCM via g711. But how would that apply to my Site 2 and Site 3? If I configure CUCM to use g.729 across the WAN?
voice class codec 1
codec preference 1 g711ulaw
codec preference 3 g729r8
Current lab configuration -
Site 1 - MGCP gateway
IP multicast-routing enabled
transcoder 4
conference bridge 2
UCCX Agent
SIP phone - optional in lab 2
Site 2 - H323 gateway
MVA,
IP Muilitcast-routing
UCCX Agent
SRST
Voice mail backup
transcoder 4
Site 3 - MGCP
CUE to CUCM
SRST-CME
B-ACD script
Transcoder 4
no sip phones ( optional in lab 2)
MWI should work in both modes
no ephone-dn configured for MWI
This weekend I am going to change the lab up and configure a gatekeeper at between Site 1 and Site 3. I am also going to configure Site C as a CME CUE express.
Any help to have a better understand would be much appreciated.
