Large site with 1800 Cisco IP Phone and BOOTP

Hey, imagine I have a data center hub with CUCM 8.5, MPLS connectivity to two branches.

Branches are large, 1,800 Cisco IP Phones. This network is for voice only.

Question:

Since branches have lot of phones, someone gave me the idea of configuring BOOTP in the branches itself.

I thought that if I deployed DHCP servers in the branches it would be already a good design to let the DHCP leasing happens at the local branch instead of making 1800 phones go over the wan to get DHCP info.

Can someone clarify what type of device I could run BOOTP? If I configure such BOOTP server for the IP phones, do I still need to run DHCP Server? I did setup many DHcp services before, but I never did BOOTP config.

You don't need bootp, that is an obsolote protocol that does nothing for the phones.

You just need one or more dhcp servers. You can search "dhcp scalability and redundancy".
