How much max jitter can we have before our voice call start degrading severly ?

Is jitter of 1 msec too much to maintain good quality call ?

thanks

Hi

1 msec is absolutely nothing to worry about.

See : http://www.ciscopress.com/articles/article.asp?p=357102 which suggests 30 msec, but these things aren't hard and fast. Different devices have differnet jitter buffers, different codecs, etc etc.

I presume you are having voice issues? Any packet loss on the rx side?

Thanks Aaron.

I work for a tier 1 ISP, one of our customer  has mpls vpn with us,our customer raised a issue about jitter, after we perform some packet capture  we see jitter of 1 msec average which in my view is very negligible considering SLA of 3 msec  but one of our senior engineer ( I am being a newbie and this being my first job) says 1 msec is alot which i did not believe but i did not want to argue :)

Anyway i appreciate your help.
