MWI - interacting with AVST CallXpress

I am trying to interface UCM 8 with AVST CallXpress, which is a voicemail system.  The voicemail ports are configured as 7940 telephones (SCCP integration).  Calls can be delivered to AVST.

The problem is the MWI doesn't work right all the time.  If MWI is off, a voicemail is left in AVST, the MWI is lit.  If you immediately go in and delete the message, it doesn't turn off.  However, if someone waits a few minutes, it does turn off.  The AVST techs are asking if there is some sort of "delay" requirement.

The AVST system apparently does not have anything that is the equivalent of a "trace" to see what message is coming back.  Is there a way to trace activity on the specific ports?

Does anyone have any opinions on the AVST system?  I'm not so thrilled at the moment.  thanks all.
