Outbound Fax Issues - SIP Fax Machine - PSTN - PRI - MGCP - CUCM - RICOHFAX

Hi Everyone,

Looking at connecting our Ricoh Fax's via SIP to CUCM so we can get rid of our POTS lines.  We are able to build the 3rd party sip endpoint in the CUCM and the RICOHFAX can receive faxes but the RICOHFAX is unable to send faxes.  It will initiate the call but then other RicohFax's are unable to sync so it'll send the fax.

Any ideas?

Does anyone have a working config they wouldn't mind posting?

Thanks in advance,

Wes

When you call out of the Ricoh fax machine, does the initial voice call get established successfully?

Do internal calls between one Ricoh machine to another Ricoh machine (registered to the same CUCM) work fine?

What FOIP fax protocol is set on the Ricoh machines?

Do you have a packet capture from the Ricoh or a switchport where the Ricoh is connected so we can see what exactly happens during the call?

Great Questions!

Yep, the Ricoh fax machine does establish the initial voice call.  Once it establishes the call it starts trying to train (sync) up with the other one and that's where the fail happens.

Internal call (transmission) from an internal ricoh fax using an analog line to the internal ricoh fax we have setup as a sip work fine.

When calling (transmitting) from the internal ricoh fax setup as SIP to the internal ricoh fax setup on a pots line fails.

We are doing it as SIP.

I don't, but I can generate one today and post that.

Wes

If it is failing during train, have you checked the PRI circuit for slips ? Make sure there aren't any. Also you have not mentioned the fax protocol. Your best bet would be T.38 since you cannot do pass-through with MGCP and I doubt the Ricoh machines can understand NSE so you cannot use modem passthrough either.

I haven't checked the PRI circuit for slips.  To be honest this is my first foray into putting a fax as SIP.  I'll search for how to check on that or do you know how?  Correct sorry, T.38 is what we are trying to enable.

Do a "show controller t1" on the gateway. The last couple of lines in that output should show Slip Errors. Check that and attach your config here please.

Here is the result of the sh controller t1

What part of my config do you want to see?  (it's HUGE hate to post the whole thing)

There are slips. Do a "clear counter" and monitor this output for a couple of minutes. If the Slips do not increase and stay at 0, you should be good, else send an output for -

show run | s contro
show run | i network
show inven

You are correct after Clear Counter the slips are going up.  Please see the commands you requested below.  Do you still want the entire config or just a specific section?

Just noticed, I don't have the two following commands in my config.  Do I need to go back and add them?

no mgcp fax t38 inhibit

mgcp package-capability fxr-package

Thanks in advance,

Wes

We just tried adding this.

network-clock-select 1 T1 0/0/0
network-clock-select 2 T1 0/1/0

The above two lines took care of our clock slip issues and now those are at 0.

We also added the two below lines.

voice service voip
fax protocol t38 ls-redundancy 0 hs-redundancy 0 fallback pass-through g711ulaw

This is our sh mgcp

mgcp fax t38 nsf 000000

Then a no mgcp, mgcp to re-register the gateway with the new packages. Do not do this when calls are active.

Trying that today.

Wes

So everything was in there except for

no mgcp t38 ecm

Added that but still no love.

Any more ideas?
