Phone Paging/Alerting in Hospital

GCMH IT

I'm trying to see if anyone has any ideas for what we are looking to do. In a hospital we have a registration area were patients register for services. What we would like to do with our CUCM system is to have buttons on the phones (7965) in the registration area that they can push to ring a phone (7945) in either the Lab or Radiology department to alert that department of a patient waiting. Ideally the registration person would only have to push the button and then be done, not have to stay on the phone, and the phone in Lab or Radiology would continue to ring until someone cleared the alert or picked the phone up or something.

Just wondering if anyone out there is doing something like this or would have any ideas on how to make this work. Sometimes the hardest part of searching for a solution is knowing what to search for so even if you have keywords that I could search for to find a solution I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi,

Non of the existing feature within CUCM would fully satisfy your requirement. I would suggest the below solution going forward.

Thanks, I started looking at this right after I posted the question. I'll let you know what I come up with.

InformaCast gave me exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!

From what I'm reading Paging might be little to big solution for you but CUCM intercom should do the trick, more on intercom:

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info, I'll check it out.

Hi,

We offer paging solution which can broadcast text messages, presentations (several graphic or text slides) or vocal announcements to a large groups of Cisco IP Phone users or from user to user

Text messages defined may be sent from an IP Phone service or from a web interface (that fit in a Jabber’s tab). Depending of the profile, the user can use predefined distribution list or send to define phone numbers, he may also use predefined message or enter a new message. Message priority are pushed with an audio notification and can clear after a while. Information messages or presentations may remain available for reading afterward, through Services menu.

Vocal announcement can be sent live (push to talk) from an IP Phones to a list of IP Phones. Vocal announcements are sent from one IP Phone to a group of IP Phones, using multicast ip technology. Announcement or alert is received on IP Phone loudspeaker or if the user is online, on the phone handspeaker. Audio level can be forced depending of alert priority.

Please let me know if this is of interest to you and you can contact me at prasana@commsouth.com
