In terms of managing licensing for Unity/Unity Connection, is there a fast/quick/easy way to determine VM mailboxes that aren't being utilized? For example, an employee leaves and the netadmin isn't told (no, that never happens). Obviously that VM mailbox won't get used (or at least it shouldn't). How can I find the unused VM mailboxes in order to reclaim/redeploy the license.

Hi Chris,
Just to add a note to the great tips from Hailey (+5 "H")
For Unity Connection
There is a perfect tool for this type of report. We have used this to search for the same "setup" info
Check the "Set for First Time Enrollment" and "Voice name Recorded";
Connection User Data Dump (CUDD) Tool
The Connection User Data Dump (CUDD) is a Windows-based remote database administration tool available on the Cisco Unity Tools website. CUDD allows you to export specific information about users to a file that can be viewed or imported into another application, such as a database utility or Microsoft Excel. When the data is exported, the tool automatically creates a header row that lists the data type found in each column of the output, for ease of import into other programs.
Here is a sample (where the 0 under first Time Enrollment means the user has
completed the setup and 1 means they have not gone through the Enrollment steps)
DISPLAY_NAME | PRIMARY_EXTENSION | SET_FOR_FIRST_TIME_ENROLLMENT |
Rob Huffman | 7001 | 0 |
Ben Nutball | 6813 | 1 |
The tool is available from the "Superb" Unity Tools site;
http://www.ciscounitytools.com/Applications/CxN/UserDataDump/UserDataDump.html
From the Help Notes;
Requirements/Special Notes
This version of User Data Dump runs on Windows XP/2000/2003 or Vista.
***This version of User Data Dump only works with Unity Connection 7.0(1) or later.
And for unused mailboxes;
Tools > Reports > Unused Voice Mail Accounts Report .
Cheers!

Chris,
With Unity, you can use the Subscriber Information Dump. When you run the report, there are a number of variables you can view for selected mailboxes. 2 of those which are useful are 1) whether a user has initialized a mailbox or not and 2) the user's last login time. The combination of these 2 can make it pretty obvious which mailboxes are configured but unused. You'll have to forgive me as I do not recall the equivalent for Unity Connection but I'm sure there is some form of equivalent Subscriber report for CUC as well that would provide similar information.
I've had a customer with about 4500 mailboxes look at this data before in order to show them that over 1/2 of their mailboxes were unused. You won't likely have that big of an issue but just an example of real world usage.
