We have a direcoty where we have names with mutated vowel (e.g. äüöàéè). But with an english phone locale it's not possible to enter this characters and therefore the users can not find the contact. Is there a way to add specific mutated vowel to the english (or italian, french) keybouard on the phone? For example with the German locale we can see all the characters but then the phone have the wrong language.

Hi there

You can install one locale at a time to an ip phone. There was a web portal access to the CCM Direcotory. But unfortunately, the feature is deprecated post 10.x versions. You can plan integrating your directory to any xml directories (http://aurus5.com/phoneup/directory/)

If you have Jabber, I bet you can search with the umlaut letters.

Hope this helps!

Cheers
Rath!

Hi there

Is this on certain model of phones (like 6900). I can find an Enhancement request similar to this.

https://bst.cloudapps.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCte94630

Special Characters could not be handled as phone input
CSCte94630

Description
Symptom:
Input contains special characters needs to be substituted so that CUCM can recognize it. To reproduce it, go to phonebook and add a new record with special characters, such as &, % and etc...

Example user input : "MÜ" ("Ü" = umlaut)
7965, 7971 send: "M%C3%9C" bytes: 4D 25 43 33 25 39 43
6941 sends: "M??" bytes: 4D C3 96

Conditions:

Workaround:
Don't input special characters

Hope this helps!

Hello Rath

Thanks for your answer and link. But I have another issue. I would like to find Names with the mutated vowel with a phone where we can't enter this letters.

e.g. I would like to find the German name 'Müller'. With the phone (e.g. 8841) where we have the german locale it's possible as I can eter the letter 'ü'. But if I have another phone with an Italian locale I can't enter a 'ü'. So my question is if we can expend the keyboard layout with the mutated vowel also for Italian/English locale.
