Hi,
We are just setting up a new office and I've been trying to get some sense out of the Cisco 'experts' that are configuring the phone system.
So far they tell me:
"There is no such thing as a user logon on the phone system. Each phone has a DID associated with it. It therefore cannot log or track any of the international calls made on the phones to determine who made them." I'll just receive a phone bill by DID. Anyone could have made the calls.
OK, so I'm not exactly an expert in phone systems but I thought that the whole point of having a Cisco phone system was that it gave you some level of control and reporting over usage.
I also recall hearing (about 8 years ago) that users can 'sign on' to the phone system, so that their extension 'roams' with them, depending on which hot-desk they sit at. Is this the case or am I dreaming this stuff up?
A second question: Can we have different offices that connect together so that the whole phone system becomes one, routing the calls over the internet?
If so, what kit would I need at a the remote offices and at users home-offices to make this work? Just the phone and an ADSL line or phone + vpn router + adsl?
And a third question: I kind of hoped that we could use the 7925G wifi phones, so that users can roam around with them in the office and take them home with them and still be 'connected' when they are at home. Again, am I dreaming, or is this a real possibility?
All advice and guidance most gratefully received!!
Giles
