Setting up an Intercom workaround for 7960 phones in Call Manager

Hey guys,

Using Call Manager version 8.0.3.21900-8
Phone model: 7960

I know you cannot set up the actual intercom feature on the 7960s as they are not supported. But I was wondering if anyone knew of a workaround such as having an extra line and have the recievers line set up to auto-answer or something.

I am new to Call Manager and would appreciate some direction. SO far I have tried setting up a Route Partition called INTERCOMR_PT and a calling space called INTERCOMR_CSS I then created an extra line on the phone (Line [2] - 3073 in INTERCOMR_PT) and applied the following settings:

Directory Number Information:

Directory Number: 3073 (THis is a random extension that is not in use, the phones line 1 ext is 3038)
Route Partition: INTERCOMR_PT
Description: Intercom for User 1
Alerting Name: User1 Intercom
ASCII Alerting Name: User1 Intercom

Directory Number Settings:

Voice Mail Profile: < None >
Calling Search Space: INTERCOMR
Presence Group*: Standard Presence Group
User Hold MOH Audio Source: < None >
User Hold MOH Audio Source: < None >
Auto Answer: Auto Answer with Speakerphone

Call Forward and Call Pickup Settings:

Voice MailDestinationCalling Search Space
Calling Search Space Activation PolicyUse System Default
Forward All-- Not Selected ----EMPTY--FWD_INTERNATIONAL_CSS
Secondary Calling Search Space for Forward All

INTERCOMR_CSS

Forward Busy Internal-- or Selected ----EMPTY--

< None >

Forward No Answer Internal-- or Selected ----EMPTY--

< None >

Forward No Answer External-- or Selected ----EMPTY--

< None >

Forward No Coverage Internal-- or Selected ----EMPTY--< None >
Forward No Coverage External-- or Selected ----EMPTY--< None >
Forward on CTI Failure-- or Selected ----EMPTY--< None >
Forward Unregistered Internal-- or Selected ----EMPTY--< None >
Forward Unregistered External-- or Selected ----EMPTY--< None >

I set up a second phone as User 2 with an extension as 3072 for the line two with the same settings as above. When I try to dial each of the phones it goes straight to a message saying "Your call cannot be completed as dialed".

Any ideas?

So you want broadcast paging to multiple phones?  You are going to need a 3rd party application such as IPSession which is made by a company named IPCelerate.  Also, you can use Berbee or any other 3rd party product that adds broadcast paging functionality to CUCM.  Most of my experience has been with IPSession.

Hi Vicky,

It looks like a Partition/CSS issue from first look. The way you have it set up

only 3072 and 3073 could call each other. If you are calling from any other number

like 3038 you'll get the intercept message you are hearing.

Cheers!

Rob

I troubleshooted some more last night and basically put the second line to the same as their main line, so for User 1 I have line one and line two at the extension 3038. For user 2 I have line one and line two extensions set to 3055. I then changed the settings for both phones under Call Forward and Pickup Settings to:

Voice MailDestinationCalling Search Space
Calling Search Space Activation PolicyUse System Default
Forward All-- Not Selected ----EMPTY--< None >
Secondary Calling Search Space for Forward All

INTERCOMR_CSS

Forward Busy Internal-- or Selected ----EMPTY--

< None >

Forward No Answer Internal-- or Selected ----EMPTY--

< None >

Forward No Answer External-- or Selected ----EMPTY--

< None >

Forward No Coverage Internal-- or Selected ----EMPTY--< None >
Forward No Coverage External-- or Selected ----EMPTY--< None >
Forward on CTI Failure-- or Selected ----EMPTY--< None >
Forward Unregistered Internal-- or Selected ----EMPTY--< None >
Forward Unregistered External-- or Selected ----EMPTY--< None >

This allowed me to basically click line two (on user 1's phone), dial an extension (3055) and have it go straight to loud speaker on user 2's phone. This is as close to an Intercom feature as I could get. ANy way I can make this better?

Hi Vicky,

It sounds like you've made good headway here

What functionality are you looking to add??

Cheers!

Rob

Ideally I want it to act as close to an intercom as possible, meaning I want the ability to intercom several people at once. Right now it will only call one specific person at a time. Is there any work around for this that you are aware of?

I figured that would be the case, just wanted to see my options. Thanks for all your help, its always good to have someone to bounce ideas off of.
