Setting up international calling

I've got a client that needs some of their phones to be able to make international calls.  To set this up I've done the following:

Created a PD_International partition

Created 2 route patterns, one using 9.011!  and one using 9.011!#     Put them in the new partition.  Set the rest up identical to the PD_LD route pattern.

Created a PD_International Calling Search Space.  Set the PD_International partition to be first, then the same partitions in the PD_LD CSS.

Assigned the PD_International CSS to the phones and to the main extension on the phones.

They are trying to call London and they get as far as dialing 9011 and then it's ringing to their operator.

What did I miss?

Check for a translation pattern with urgent priority checked.  The dialed number analyzer can be useful if you enter 9011 with the International CSS set on it, it will show you what translation pattern it's matching.

Good call...   Urgent Priority was enabled on the 9.0 route pattern.  When he said he was getting the operator when he called I assumed it was the local operator, but based on this he was probably getting the phone company operator.

I've got this setting turned off and I've asked him to test it.

Will they still be able to call the operator?  How will it know if he's calling 9.0 or 9.011?  Just the delay?

Exactly you'll have to wait for the inter digit timeout (delay) to get to the operator unless there was a 9.0# pattern added and users knew to press # at the end of dialing 9.0 to reach the operator.

They tested and are now able to dial the complete number, but it is giving them a fast busy.   I've got a call into the phone provider to see if their service allows international calling.

I've got the Discard Digits setting set to PreDot.   Does this need to be 'PreDot IntlAccess IntlDirectDial', or one of the other ones?

Hi Marc,

Do you mean to say that the users can dial the complete no. using 9.011!# route pattern and getting fast busy? If so then you require a discard digit = pre-dot + trailing #. If it still gives a fast busy, check what no. is being sent to the gateway for outbound calls.

PreDot IntlAccess IntlDirectDial should be used only when you want the CUCM to discard both pre-dot and the international access code before sending out the call. This may depend on the telco which accepts your call. If they do not require the international access code in the called no. then try putting PreDot IntlAccess IntlDirectDial in the DDI.
