Show Calling Party # in connected call status 8861 enhanced line mode

Hello,

8861 IP Phone firmware version is sip88xx.14-2-1-0001-14

For an 8861 IP phone that is setup in Enhanced line mode, tests show that it is possible to display the Calling party number for connected status.

external call rings to the IP Phone

from the call flow diagram in RTMT

PSTN > Cube > CUCM v 14> Sip Trunk > IP Phone

The incoming call alert to the 8861 IP Phone in Enhanced line mode shows:

calling party name

calling party number

however once the call is answered:

call goes to connected status and the 8861 IP Phone in Enhanced line mode line display shows:

the calling party name and the called party line where the call was answered as

”For (And then the full 10 digit number of the called party- 10 digit dialing is setup so each line is configured as full 10 digit number)

Because the goal is to show the calling party number for calls in connected status making it easier to identify the caller when there is more than one active call- while it is possible to press the line hard button and then see the calling party number in connected status it is not intuitive so showing the calling party number directly on the screen if the phone in connected status is better in this case so after testing the SIP

trunk where the calls are received to the IP Phone this setting change was identified to allow the IP 8861 phone to show the calling party number

on the SIP trunk for calls in Connected Status there is an Inbound Calling section

within the Inbound calling section there is Connected call settings a checkbox that says:

Use Device Pool Connected Party Transformation CSS checkbox

There is also another drop down menu that says Connected Party Transformation CSS where a calling search space can be specified however in testing <none> was selected during test calls.

When completing test calls to show the calling party number on the phone where the calls are answered for calls in connected status the only setting that was changed was the above mentioned “ Use Device Pool connected party transformation CSS” was originally checked and during test calling this checkbox was unchecked and then the configuration change was saved and the SIP trunk was reset.

after saving the change and resetting the SIP trunk the 8861 IP Phones displayed the calling party number for calls in connected status and the incoming call alert was not modified , it still showed the calling party name and number and test calls in connected status showed the calling party number as intended and the called Party line 10 digit number as “For <and then the 10 digit line number”> underneath the calling party number.

calls were placed from different external sources to the 8861 Ip phone and the connected status of the calls all displayed the calling party number and the called party 10 digit number underneath the calling party number

When a second call was placed during this time the line display updated to showing “2” indicating that there two active connected calls on the line and whichever call was most recently active on the line displayed at the top on the line display above the “<For and the 10 digit number of the called party belonging to the phone where the call was answered 8861 Ip Phone”

in an effort to additionally allow both the calling party number and the calling party name to appear for calls in connected status additional call tests where the Connected Status Inbound Sip Trunk

allow/default/restricted for Connected Status

was updated to Restricted and then SIP trunk reset to allow the calling party name and calling party number to appear for calls in connected  status instead of the calling party number and the called party number as it is preferable to see both the calling party name and number for calls in connected status for the line display.

after these test calls the calling party number no longer displayed and the default display of the calling party name and the called party number displayed in the line display for the connected call status.

While the original test of unchecking “ Use Device Pool Calling Party Transformation CSS” was unchecked and the SIP trunk reset for showing the Calling Party number for calls in connected status after additional testing reverting Connected Party Inbound default/allowed/restricted SIP trunk settings and resetting the SIP trunk where the “ Use Device Pool calling party transformations CSS” check box was also left unchecked however the Calling Party number no longer displayed for calls in connected status.

additional troubleshooting/testing measures included restarting the Call Manager service

resetting the device pool

resetting the SiP trunk

ensuring that the original working confirmation of “ Use Device Pool connected party Transformation CSS” was unchecked on all SIP trunks where the calls could process to IP phones and the calling party number still no longer displayed for calls in connected status.

Additional testing of the SIP profile only showed that setting the Calling Party Name for calls in connected status to Restricted simply sets the incoming call alerts to Private

and the Calling Line ID setting for Connected Status in the Inbound calling on the SIP trunk profile also had no effect.

The only setting that yielded any progress towards the goal of displaying both the calling party number and the calling party name for calls in connected status on the 8861 IP phone display was unchecking the “ Use Device Pool Calling Party Transformation CSS” setting on the Inbound SIP trunk allowed the calling party number to display for calls in connected status—

until additional changes were tested and then getting the calling party number to appear for calls in connected status could not be replicated again while working towards the goal of getting both the calling party name and the calling party number to appear for calls in connected status on the 8861 IP phone for the phone which is setup in enhanced line mode.

The CUCM version is 14.1 and any suggestions are both welcomed and appreciated.
