How can I set up a softphone on a laptop and use only one license, but use it no matter if I am connected wireless or wired with one MAC address.

Configure only the wired MAC address in the CCM and select the wired network card (NIC) from the Network Adaptor drop down menu in the IP Communicator. It will work even if you use your wireless connection.

softphone doesn't need a MAC address at all. All you need is to configure the soft-phone first on the CCM, then install soft-phone software on the user's PC / laptop & configure the line there.. It's not like an IP Communicator which is binded to a particular PC / laptop MAC.

then what goes in the device name field?

In preferences, Network, Device Name
You have 2 choices:
1> Use Network Adapter to generate Device Name
2> Use this Device Name
Option 1, can change depending how you are connected, Wired, Wireless, by VPN, etc ...
And will generate a new Device each time you connect with a new one.
So using option 2, the SoftPhone will always use the same MAC adress to generate the device.
When 1 is selected, choose the laptop network card, then select "Use the Device Name" to force it to stay with that setting.
Also you can keep track of that MAC so if in the futur, you have to change the user network card, laptop, new motherboard.
You will be able to force the same MAC adress on the Softphone, so the user will be back in service in no-time.
