SRST and Specialty line Conversions

We currently have all of our remote voice gateways setup for the sole purposes of SRST--- in the event of a WAN outage all the phone can make limited calls in/out of the gateway utilizing POTS lines (which are terminated to FXO cards).  This setup works well.  We are in the midst of planning to migrate all of the old copper POTS lines over to "Specialty Lines"--- basically the Telco provides us with an ATA.  We are being told that to connect to the ATA utilizing an FXS port/card in our gateway.   My question is-- will this work?  I've always had the understanding that FXS cards where for phones or fax machines.  Does anyone have any experience with utilizing FXS ports in this fashion.

That’s very strange since that wouldn’t work with a normal analog phone. So long as one end of the connection is FXO and the other FXS it should work for basic calls. Caller ID likely won’t work though. As always, using ground start is recommended if the provider’s equipment supports it.

You would be much better off configuring a SIP trunk (CUBE license required) instead of maintaining that ancient analog connections.
