Are you planning on integrating directly to another company bypassing PSTN and using IME/ASA for calls?
This is not a widely deployed solution and the percentage of customers using it is very, very low ( I wish I had some numbers to back it up). Since it is free Cisco bundles it with all deals, but unless you have plans on deploying it you will not need it. 2 servers for CUCM would be sufficient if they are both at the same data center and if your total number of devices is ~1000 or less. If you have not purchased the MCS servers yet, you might want to check with reseller if they are still available as Cisco inventory might have ran out and IBM no longer makes those specs.

UCM is Unified Communications Manager, IME is Inter-company Media Engine. Both server different purpose. CUCM is your IP-PBX and IME allows you to integrate 2 companies' CUCMs to essentailly allow free calling between the 2 companies bypassing PSTN.

Hi Joy,
CUCM and IME are different components. For IME and Call Manager , u get two different PAKs installed on different servers.
IME is required for connecting different organisations through Internet rather than PSTN by configuraing SIP TRUNKS.

I f we need only UCM pub and sub how many server required.

CUCM as of version 9 is no longer tracking nodes so you can install as many Subs as you want (obviously you have to follow clustering guidelines such as 8 call processors max, etc). Previous version such as 8.X node licenses were enforced but with CUWL licensee you get those for no charge, you just need to order the free node PAK.

Hi Joy,
Please refer the Datasheet for IME which says
Cisco IME systems require three main components: a Cisco IME server, Cisco ASA 5500 Series Adaptive Security Appliances, and Cisco Unified CM 8.0 or Cisco Unified CM Session Management Edition 8.0.

Is this for new install? If so, why would you go with version 8.5 and not 9.1? Also, why would you install MCS servers if they are going to be end of life in version 10 and no longer supported. You should be either looking at UCS servers or spec based from other vendors.

Chris

Bill of Materials should be build based on system requirements, so whoever built it should have listed count for each item. Number of servers depends on your requirements, i.e. how many phones, users, are severs to be split between data centers, number of sites supported, etc. You need to go through the system sizing to determine optimal number of servers as this is not a wild guess.
