UCS phone can make calls but cannot receive outside calls

Hello all,

Please note that I am a complete newbie when it comes to the UCS system. I'm learning everyday.

One of our extensions can make calls inside and outside our company, can receive calls extension-to-extension, but cannot receive calls from outside.

Calls from outside get re-directed to a "catch all".

We have CP-7821 phones, and this extension does not show the proper full number on the top-right of the screen. It is 1 digit off (instead of 514868xxxx it shows 514878xxxx)

Note that 514878xxxx is NOT in our organization.

Where should I be looking to correct this situation?

Thanks,

Marc

UCS stands for Unified Computing System, that's the HW where UC runs, not the actual UC product.

You could start by adjusting the DN to the one that does belong to your organization, if that does not fix it, then you need to start by understanding the call flow for this call from the PSTN, and then debug your GW/CUBE to find out what you receive, and then match that with the rest of your CUCM (I'm assuming you use CUCM as you mentioned UCS) to determine if you need to adjust your call routing, no way to tell you what/were as you're the only one with access to your CUCM.

This looks interesting but I don't understand any of it. As I said, I'm a complete newbie with this system I inherited from a previous administration which left no documentation at all.

Here are the 5 portals I have access to:

  1. Cisco Prime License Manager
  2. Cisco Unified Communications Manager (the CUCM you were talking about?)
  3. Cisco Unity Connection
  4. Cisco Unified Communications Manager IM and Presence
  5. Cisco Unified Operating System Administration

Adjusting the DN - understanding PSTN - debug GW/CUBE are all concept I am unfamiliar with.

Any additional information on where I can start?

Thanks.

What you see the top-right of the screen can be modified from External Phone Number Mask on line.

I use three digit extensions and for an  extension 399 with the below setting it shows 2452399(hope you understood).

Calls from outside get re-directed to a "catch all". what does this mean, catch all?

Thank you for your reply!

I changed the External Phone Number Mask and this seems to have corrected the information on the phone's screen.

So that's part of my problem solved.

The "catch all" is the extension that gets all calls made to a non-existing extension. I want to change that to a message saying "the extension you have dialed is not a valid one" or something similar.

Annunciator will be responsible for playing  that message. make sure that you have IPVMS is activated on a server.

Regarding the incoming call issue, you need to look in to the call flow.

You could just remove the configuration that directs to the "catch all", then callers what ever error the carrier gives for an unallocated number.  This would only work for incoming external calls of course.

If you want a customised message, then you could configure an announcement only mailbox in Unity connection, and route unallocated DDIs there.
