I am looking to find out if what I would like to do is possible and if it would work. Here is my situation.
I have a CUCM and Unity Connection HA cluster which is clustered over the WAN. The publishers are both at one site - call it SiteA - and the subscribers are both at another site - call it Site B.
I would like to have the calls fowarded to voicemail for users at SiteA go to the Answer ports of the SiteA Unity Connection server first and then to the Answer ports of the SiteB Unity Connection server. For the users at SiteB I would like the opposites. My goal is to attempt to keep traffic local as much as possible and not traversing the WAN.
I know the restriction state that within the Line group for the Voicemail ports, they have to be in numerical order. But is it possible to split the ports into two different line groups - called for example UnityCxnPub_LG and UnityCxnSub_LG and then within the Hunt List reverse the order of the Line groups. So in my example I would have the following:
UnityCxnSub_LG (DN 1250-1269)
UnityCxnPub_LG (DN 1270-1289)
Cxn_PubSub_HL > UnityCxnPub_LG, UnityCxnSub_LG
Cxn_SubPub_HL > UnityCxnSub_LG, UnityCxnPub_LG
SiteA_HuntPilot (1200) > CxnPubSub_HL
SiteB_HuntPilot (1201) > CxnSubPub_HL
A VM pilot for both 1200 and 1201
SiteA_VMProfile > 1201
SiteB_VMProfile > 1200
If this is not possible, or there is not another way to try and keep the traffic as local as possible, I will configure this as normal and have actually already done so. But if there is a method to keep the traffic off the WAN as much as possible, I would like to use it.
Thanks!

Absolutely.
This is documented in the UCON-CUCM SCCP integration guide and your reasoning is correct.

Thanks for confirming. I read through the guide a few times and it was not real clear to me whether this was valid or not. It is just what made sense to me. Everywhere I read kept stating that the Subscriber will answer most incoming calls. Do you know in what chapter/where in the guide it talks about this? I like bookmarking items in the guide I find useful.

Either the integration guide or CUCM SRND might mention this. I do the same on all of my projects.

Thanks. I think I finally found it in the SRND. I appreciate the helpful responses.!

With this design do you do any special or different setup on Unity Conneciton? I've read throught the UCM SRND and I asuming section 21 is the section you are talking about. I understand the Call manager design, but i'm new to Unity Connection and was wondering how the configuration on that system is setup. I'm asume you create a single port group?

On UCXN side you create separate Port Groups that point to the CUCM servers (under servers section of port group) in the order they are defined on CUCM Group assigned to the VM ports/SIP trunk, or in case you are using "route on all nodes" then list all CUCM servers under each port group, but list them in order of preference 9 (i.e. local CUCMs first). That's it.

Chris
