Dear All
I have two CUCM (publisher , Subscriber ) version 7.1.5 MCS server , my Questions are following as below :
1) if i want to upgrade to 8.0 , it will be directly from install/upgarde software then put CD/DVD version 8 then upgarde ????? or i have re-build the server from begining : take the backup from version 7.1.5 by DMA then to re-install the publisher server then add Backup then go Subscriber and do the same steps at publisher ????
2) if i need to re-install or rebuild the server , which remonnaded way to start from publisher first or from subscriber (all phones registered first on subscriber then publisher) ?????? can you give me the steps to upgrade ???

Direct upgarde means that from 7.1.5 will go to 8.x version with ONLY one upgrade
Non direct upgarde means multible upgardes before you go to desire version
The below shows you from the version that you are now to which version you can go directly(with only one upgrade)
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/compat/ccmcompmatr.html
Here is the hardwatre compatibility matrix
General:
First you have to upgarde the PUB.Then the upgrade version will go to the inactive partision
Then upgrade the SUB.
Once SUB finish and the upgarde version is also to the inactive partition then go and switch version first to the PUB
Once PUB comes up , then go ahead and do the same with the SUB
After all check the replication status from the Pub to be sure that teh replication is ok between PUB and SUB

The FAQ which is on top of the main page, covers your questions.
If your server is compatible with the CUCM release, all you need to do is upgrade.
Cisco Unified Communications Manager
Software Compatibility Matrix

Assuming the version are a direct upgrade, you can do it in one hop, otherwise, you might need multiple hops.
Review above information and also the FAQ.
