Upgrade MeetingPlace to Webex

Hi,

I'm planning to upgrade the MeetingPlace to CWMS. I'm afraid some user behavior of MeetingPlace is missing on CWMS, e.g. create the meeting by phone through CWMS, define the meeting ID from CWMS.

Any one upgraded the MeetingPlace to CWMS? Any complains by users?

Hi - First of all to be clear there is no upgrade path from Meeting Place to CWMS (and you are referring to on-premises server). You can only migrate. These are both different products architecturally. Meaning you can not import user/system details etc. from MP to CWMS - you will have to install CWMS and use any of these methods to define users manual\CSV\SSO (but its very easy). You may have meant to say you want to migrate from MP to CWMS.

Migrating from Meeting Place to CWMS is recommended as:

- Meeting Place and Meeting Place express products are now phasing out and Cisco is driving customers towards CWMS. Going forward CWMS will be Cisco's flagship product in conferencing.

- CWMS is a feature rich product, has a lot more features than Meeting Place, so your end users will be happy rather than complaining - supports audio, video, web conference (with option external as well by installing IRP), desktop/application sharing, SSO, auto account creation etc. etc.

- Regards to your query about starting conference from phone, its added in the CWMS since version 1.5  and its called Personal Confrencing (PCN)

Other than that you can have scheduled, meetn-now conferences

About Using Personal Conferencing

Personal Conferencing audio connection mode lets a meeting host quickly start the audio portion of a Cisco WebEx meeting at any time. The meeting host and participants simply dial the same call-in number, enter access codes, and the audio portion of the meeting begins. The system then sends an email to the meeting host with a link to the online portion of the meeting. If the host chooses to start the online meeting, participants can then use it to share information or collaborate on an idea. The meeting host is not required to schedule Personal Conference meetings in advance, and once generated, the access codes do not change.

- I had even migrated one of our customers to the initial version of CWMS 1.X from MP, which didn't even had those many features what you get today with 2.5 (PCN, MDC, HA etc. etc.) but never got a single complaint from customer.
- Refer to latest planning guide for further information : http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/collaboration/CWMS/2_5/Planning_Guide/Planning_Guide.html

I hope that helps you.

-Terry

Hi,

Thanks for your detail explain ...
Simple questions:
Can CMWS users create the audio meeting by phone?
Can CWMS users define the meeting ID? That mean the CWMS users can enter their defined meeting ID, e.g. 998877 ?

Yes as per above users have the capabilities to start the meeting by phone and this feature is called PCN. Meeting ID are generated by the system.
