Is there a way to use an external directory for the corporate directory for phones? Currently running CUCM 11.5 w/ CUBE that has a PRI connection to another phone system. CUCM is LDAP integrated and while users on the CUCM are able to locate users in the directory that are currently on CUCM, they'd also like to be able to lookup people who are associated w/ the other phone system. All users phone information is in AD, so I was hoping there was a way to leverage that and then have CUCM use that as the directory that is listed on the phones.

Yes, you can create your own directories, you'd need to create the directory script and host it in a separate web server.
Then create the phone service in CUCM so phones can use it.

I setup an external web server, changed the common phone profile for the phone to use external URLs for services, then put the path in the directory url for the phone. Successfully testing now, but now the voicemail button on the phone indicates no service configured.
Should I instead create a service and enroll the one test phone in it? I sw an article detailing removing all the services except VM and setting the phone profile to both, but I would like to test for a handful of people before rolling it out across the board if possible.

Because what you were supposed to do was to create a phone service for directories, then subscribe the phones to it, not to change the services URL for the devices.

Thanks, will give that a try. I think ultimately the goal would be to only have 1 directory listed on the phone for corporate which would be based on LDAP until everyone is moved to CUCM, but will give this a try now and confirm it works as expected.

Is there a way to make this available for Jabber/Spark clients?
