Hi Guys,
Why do we need to associate user with phone & DN (both)? When the phone is configured for multiple user DNs (Shared), only user can be associated with DN. How does this effect phone management (speed dial...etc) via self care user portal?
Thanks

There are different reasons why, but I'll give you one example of each to give you an idea.
User on phone:
A phone associated with a user impacts licensing. Back in the 8.x days and before, each phone would have a DLU cost, but now with user based licensing a user can own multiple phones so you want to make sure you assign them especially when a user owns multiple phones.
User on DN:
This is necessary when integrating with other applications like CUPS. The association will send a SIP Publish message to the CUPS server to update the user status information. There are other use cases as well but this gives you an idea.
Thanks,
FG
