I recently purchased cisco 2901 router and installe CME 8.6. I already have
VIC2-2BRI-NT/TE card installed in the cisco 2611XM router. The 2611XM router will be repalced with 2901 router.
But cisco 2901 did not detected the VIC2-2BRI-NT/TE card. The IOS image on 2901 is c2900-universalk9-mz.SPA.151-4.M1.bin.
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/modules/ps5365/product_data_sheet0900aecd801c595e.html
at the above link I found that this card will be compatible with 2901 router but the image should be
Cisco IOS Software Release 15.0(1)M
"UC Technology" images
I dont know what it means by UC technology images. If the current IOS is not UC technology then which IOS will be US technolgy comatianble to CME 8.6?
Can anyone please help me to install that BRI card.
Thanks
Mahmood

Hi Mahmood,
Thanks for the details. Yes, that is the issue. VIC-2BRI-NT/TE is Gen 1 which is not supported on ISR G2 platforms while VIC2-2BRI-NT/TE is Gen 2 which is supported.
Please refer to the following doc which talks about the supported platforms for this card:

Hi Mahmood,
I'm glad I could help :-)
Yes, VIC2 is supported as per the 1st doc I provided yesterday and would work just fine on the 2901 with the current IOS.

Harmit.

Hi Mahmood,
Looking at the data sheet for the VIC card in question, I can see that it is supported on the 2900 series as well as the IOS installed on your 2901:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/modules/ps5365/product_data_sheet0900aecd801c595e.html
Having said that, do you have PVDMs installed on the router? If not, that is probably why it's not getting detected.
HTH.

Harmit.

Hi Marmeet
Thanks a lot for your reply. Can you please tell me how to install PVDMs
Thanks
Mahmood
01-02-2013 08:36 AM
Hi Mahmood,
Sure no problem.
Regarding PVDMs, the following document talks about them in more detail:
I would also suggest visiting the DSP calculator to see how many PVDMs are required for the cards being installed as well as the configuration being done on this gateway:
http://www.cisco.com/web/applicat/dsprecal/dsp_calc.html

Harmit.

Hi Mahmood,
UC technology images would ideally refer to if you have UC licenses installed on the router or not. You can check that in "show version" output. Kindly upload the following outputs:
show version
show inventory
show diag

Harmit.

Hi Harmeet
The router is in our Cyprus office and powered off this time. I will power up tomorrow and send you the outputs.
Thanks
Mahmood

Hi Harmeet,
The card is VIC-2BRI-NT/TE not VIC2-2BRI-NT/TE
Please find the output of the above commands. I installed the VIC-2BRI-NT/TE card into the router. from show diag commands it looks tha card has been detected but I cant see in show inventry or hardware commands.
