What wires in Ethernet cabling are used for what?

What wires in an Ethernet Cable are used for what with a CP-8841 phone? I have one phone that will not connect to the Call Manager. I ran a trace on the line and found that wire 6 on the Ethernet cable we're using is broken at some point. I can successfully connect a laptop to the network using this same cable, but not the phone.

Can someone give me this information please?

Thank you in advance.

What is the exact model of the switch the phone is connected to?

All eight wires are required to function. In 1000Base-T all eight pins support both data transmit/receive as well as power. In 10/100Base-T pins 1,2,3 and 6 carry data while 4,5,7 and 8 carry power (assuming 802.3af Alternative B).

What do you mean by the statement which states, phone will not connect to the call manager ?

Are you not able to register the phone or not able to connect the phone to the switch port ?

Is the phone getting an IP address from DHCP if enabled after connecting it to the switch ?

This phone model supports an internal 2-port Cisco Ethernet switch allows for a direct connection to a 10/100/1000BASE-T Ethernet network (IEEE 802.3i/802.3u/802.3ab) through a RJ-45 interface with single LAN connectivity for both the phone and a co-located PC.
