3750 Metro

Reading the docs on the 3750 it would appear that this little switch claims to be able to do EoMPLS and L3VPNs. Has anyone tested this theory out yet? I am due to get a couple and will begin testing this device to death.

The Cisco Catalyst 3750 Metro Series includes two SFP-based ES ports. The ES ports support metro features that are vital for delivering profitable business services, such as Layers 2 and 3 and MPLS VPNs, in several bandwidths and with different SLAs. Supported features on the ES ports include EoMPLS, MPLS, MPLS VPNs, hierarchical QoS, intelligent 802.1Q tunneling (Q-in-Q), and VLAN ID translation. More details

Does that mean other ports are not MPLS aware?

Thanks

yes I know all this. What I am asking is anybody actually doing it. I will be getting some switches in a few weeks to test to death and was just wondering if anyone else has done this.

Hi,

I am going to implement this pretty soon. I need to transport some customers VLANs transparently over a SP backbone. I would prefer EoMPLS but the problem is that it's a point-to-point techno at the moment, at least on 3750 M. VPLS is not on the roadmap.QnQ would fit better. Unfortunately I cannot have feedback of such an implementation from Cisco. I'tell you what I experience.

So VLAN ID translation is not supported on Access ports?

I had done a few tests for a similar kind of configuration and had used QinQ or Vlan Stacking and it worls fine, we had tested around 2000 Vlans on this one...

Well so far I have plugged these into the lab network. Tried to do Eompls it failed (I recognise the symptons of black holing unicast packets so I know this is a bug but hey it doesnt work). I then loaded it with 4000 routes and the poor little switch died a death. Not impressed at all.

I have tested now.

QinQ: It works on the 3750 METRO although I have tested with a minimum number of VLANs. I am going to test various QoS scenarios.

EoMPLS: worked until I unplugged a link to test redundancy. Then it failed. I have an open case on this topic and will pusue testing.
