6VPE Question

We have MPLS core with 3 Route reflectors (RR), we are implementing 6VPE in the core, we want to start testing with two PEs (running XR OS) and one RR only. To enable 6VPE on the PE, I'll add "address-family vpnv6 unicast" on the PEs,  but I have few questions please

1)  Under the address-family vpnv6, I'll use these commands

 "update-source Loopback0
  address-family vpnv6 unicast
   next-hop-self"

Do we have to add IPv6 to the loopback0? Or the IPv4 is enough to make "update-source loopback0" and "next-hop-self" work? I think IPv4 is enough?

2) Can I add  "address-family vpnv6 unicast" to one RR? Or I have to add it to all RRs?

Thank you in advance

Hi,

1) The 6VPE feature is built to run on MPLS IPv4 only core, so you do not need an IPv6 address on the Loopback interface. The next-hop-self is implicitly configured for 6VPE and is not required.

2) You could start with only one RR, but this is only for a trial.
